Whilst the machine is switched on the top warms up gently allowing for the pre warming of cups but I find it takes too long and instead use the steam wand to heat up my cups. I use the steam wand on the boiling water setting first until it stops automatically which fills my cup 2 thirds then I express a double shot of espresso which gives me the perfect creamy black coffee, my wife on the other hand enjoys a cappuccino which is achieved easily by texting the milk in the milk jug using the steam wand, this machine makes the most perfect texted milk.!!Īfter use the machine is also easy to clean, just run another shot cycle through the grouphead without the porter filter in place to clean that and give the steam wand a wipe with a damp cloth and run steam or hot water through it for a couple of seconds and all is done. This machine also has a steam wand which is a fantastic addition, not only is it good for heating up and texturing milk but it also acts as a hot water tap. During the coffee extraction process the coffee pours out of the double spouts at steady even pace and once finished leaves a very creamy coffee in the bottom of the cup, this can be a single shot amount or double. The coffee is ground via what looks and sounds like an extremely robust Burr grinder, this is done be inserting the porter filter into the grinder head and pushing down until the desired amount of coffee has been achieved, it is then tampered down with the plastic tamper and inserted into the grouphead which is quite a tight fit but that needs to be like that as boiling water at a high pressure is being pushed through it. The water tank is easy to detach from the back of the machine and can be filled with enough water for many cups of coffee, it then just slides down a main guide along the back of the machine and slots into position perfectly. The hopper is easy to attach to the machine and it is also used to adjust the coarseness of the bean grind, I have set mine around the middle setting (there are 30 settings in total). The design is sleek and contemporary which would look good in any kitchen and does not take up much worktop space. Upon delivery of the Barista Max I was pleasantly surprised at how easy it was to set up, once removed from the box it only needed the water box and bean hopper filling and off you go. I have been using this machine for nearly 2 weeks now on a daily basis and am extremely happy with it. Simple to use and makes a great cup of coffee.
